[1C-01] Decorative inscripts for “seeing” long inscriptions:

Typeface design based on bronze inscriptions from the tomb of Marquis of Cai

*Hikari TAKASHIRO1 (1. Tokyo Polytechnic University)

Keywords:Typeface design, Chinese bronze inscripts

This paper reports on a typeface design based on an inscription on a bronze vessel excavated from the Cai Hou tomb in Shou County, Anhui Province. In modern typeface design, few typefaces are used to decorate long texts. Bronze vessel inscriptions from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods are thought to have been written for the purpose of decorating vessels, even if they are long texts. It is noteworthy that the golden script of the Cai Houban is characterized by the curvature, angle, and intonation of the brush strokes, and that the accumulation of the brush strokes’ characteristics results in the stylistic beauty of the inscriptions as a whole.
