The Nationwide Competition and Exhibition of New Rattan Products, which was held every other year from 1963 to 1971 in Tokyo or Osaka, organized by the Nationwide Rattan Commerce and Industry Association and sponsored by political and business world, was the first attempt of its kind. Modern design and new techniques, seen in the award-winning rattan furniture, such as beauty of form composed only of Taimin rattan, Yomin rattan / round rattan, and core rattan knitting, eliminating decorative details, and combination with different materials, spread throughout the country through this exhibition.
