This paper is a survey of the Shinto shrine approach, defining spatial Qi as the way in which the Qi of an object contrasts within a space as it emanates, and the analyzing it after expressing it in gradations. Based on the field survey, the components that change the sensation were classified into symbolic elements (torii gates, bridges, and lanterns), topographical elements (height difference and bends), and natural elements (light, plants, water, and road surface conditions). The interrelationships among these elements were expressed, revealing the strength, direction and extent of spatial Qi. This is an effective method to embody spatial Qi, but the analysis is still insufficient.
