[2Dp08] Low-temperature hydrogenation of CO2 on the Pd/Cu(111) single atom alloy catalyst studied by AP-XPS
The surface chemistry of CO2 and H2 on the Pd/Cu single atom alloy catalyst (SAAC) was investigated using ambient-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The SAAC was prepared by vapor-deposition of Pd onto Cu(111), and the coverage was estimated to be ~0.01 ML. When CO2 was introduced onto the surface, carbonate and atomic oxygen species were observed, indicating the disproportion and dissociation of CO2. Adding H2 resulted in a decrease in carbonate and the formation of formate and methoxy species. The present results indicate that CO2 was hydrogenated into formate via carbonate and further converted into methoxy species on the prepared Pd/Cu(111) surface, where the reaction temperatures were below 380 K. Thus, the Pd/Cu SAAC could be a promised catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation into methanol.
