[2P38] CNT filtering of elements contained in hot spring water
Hot spring water is a crucial resource because it has a wide variety of elements. However, certain elements in hot spring water are legally prohibited or cause clogging of a pipe. Thus, chemical elements in hot springs are required to be removed. In previous studies, we have shown that various metallic elements absorb on carbon nanotubes (CNTs). As such, we expect that CNTs are potential candidates for filtering materials. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the filtering experiments of CNTs for hot spring water. In the present experiment, we have been using CNTs (SG-CNTs) fabricated by a super growth method. We soaked SG-CNTs in hot spring samples and measured the concentrations of some elements. As a result, the concentration of any element was reduced after immersion. In addition, we optimize the amount of adsorbed atoms/molecules by applying several surface treatments to SG-CNTs and we show their potential to solve the problems of hot springs.
