[3Ep01] Identifying reaction interface of next-generation Li-O2 secondary batteries

*Shuji Nakanishi1 (1. Research Center fro Solar Energy Chemistry, Osaka University)

The lithium–oxygen battery (LOB) is a next-generation rechargeable battery with a high theoretical gravimetric energy density. In this battery system, solid Li2O2 particles are reductively formed on the cathode during discharge, and then, they are oxidatively decomposed in the successive charging. However, it is still challenging to reduce the high charging voltage. In order to make a strategy for reducing the high charging voltage, it is critically important to identify the true electrochemical interface. In this study, through the comprehensive analysis using Nano-SIMS, DEMS, and electrochemical characterization, it was revealed that both discharging and charging reaction take place at the Li2O2/electrolyte interface.
