CO2 in a chemical-based absorbent with alkali solution aims to mineralize as precipitated carbonates in CO2 mineralization that is promising for carbon capture, utilization, and storage. Monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), and aminomethyl propanol (AMP) were examined in terms of performances of CO2 absorption and CO2 conversion, and absorbent degradation during the operation of multicycle CO2 mineralization involving absorption, precipitation, and regeneration processes. The experimental condition was controlled between 20°C and 25°C at atmospheric pressure, standard conditions. We found that 5 wt.% AMP was an optimum alternative option that provided 89.5% CO2 absorption capacity per unit of absorbent converted into the amount of solid carbonate within 4 cycles. It was moderately degraded by 45% in the first cycle, and then decreased from 30% to 10% in the next cycles (>2 cycles). Furthermore, AMP offered a 5-fold increase in the speed of multicycle CO2 mineralization compared with MEA, which was used as the initial absorbent.
