Sulawesi, Indonesia, presents a complex geological landscape ripe with geothermal potential, but prioritizing development areas amidst this abundance is challenging. Formed by the collision of tectonic plates, the island's fractured terrain hosts numerous geothermal prospects. This study addresses the challenge of site selection by adapting Play Fairway Analysis (PFA), a method commonly used in hydrocarbon exploration, to identify and prioritize promising geothermal areas. We integrated diverse datasets, encompassing geological, geophysical, and socioeconomic factors, into three weighted layers: permeability, heat flow, and marketability. Probabilistic methods were employed to account for uncertainties in data, and geostatistical techniques were applied to generate Common Risk Segment (CRS) maps. These were then combined to produce Composite CRS (CCRS) maps that highlight areas with high geothermal favorability. This study reveals that central Sulawesi holds significant potential for moderate to low temperature geothermal systems. Seismicity, fault locations, and surface manifestations are identified as key drivers of geothermal favorability. Importantly, the analysis identified a high-favorability area lacking known surface manifestations, suggesting the presence of undiscovered geothermal resources. This PFA-based approach provides a valuable framework for guiding geothermal exploration and development in Sulawesi, aiding in the efficient utilization of this renewable energy source.
