[S05] Recent advances in the studies of metabolic syndromes and applications to the development of new drugs

Sat. Mar 27, 2021 1:15 PM - 3:15 PM [Room D] Oral Presentation D (Online)

Organizer: Kushiyama Akifumi (Meiji Pharm. Univ.), Nakatsu Yusuke (Grad. Sch. Med., Hiroshima Univ.)

The area of adult diseases, or lifestyle-related diseases has been emphasized as a target for drug discovery, and many epoch-making new drugs such as SGLT2 inhibitors have been developed and clinically applied in the last 10 years. However, that development is still far from controlling the disease. For example, type 2 diabetes, obesity, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, sarcopenia, and overeating, still have many etiological and therapeutic challenges. Adult diseases are pathological conditions in which metabolic disorders are manifested as organ disorders, and in order to resolve them, it is necessary to deeply understand the metabolic regulation mechanism of the whole body, including the linkage of various organs from the basic aspect, and to elucidate the mechanism of metabolic disorders in various diseases such as obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia.
At this symposium, researchers who are expected to be up-and-coming and leading researchers will introduce and discuss cutting-edge knowledge in each research area related to adult diseases. To make it easier for participants to systematically understand, the metabolism of major organs such as pancreas, liver, muscle, fat, blood vessels will be introduced, and the topic of new factors in the limelight will be discussed to reveal the pathophysiology of adult diseases. We hope this symposium will stimulate the research mind and be the beginning to meet the unmet medical needs related to adult diseases.
