[S33] Mystery-solving of the structure and action of natural products

Sun. Mar 27, 2022 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM [Room D] Conference Room 141+142 (Bldg. 1: 4F)

Organizer: Masami Ishibashi (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sch., Chiba Univ.), Sachiko Tsukamoto (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sch., Kumamoto Univ.)

Of the new drugs approved in the last 5 years (2015–2019), 43% are macromolecules and 57% are small molecules, and the contribution of small molecule drugs is still high. In addition, many small molecule drugs are developed based on the structure of natural products, and natural products are therefore a treasure-trove of useful compounds. Natural products are expected to continue to play a major role as materials for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, but they also have properties as organic compounds that are linked to previously unknown life phenomena and functional food manifestations. There are many attractive research projects surrounding natural products. It is exactly the subject of pharmaceutical sciences, and it is expected to expand the horizon of knowledge and new developments that will lead to solutions to universal problems like SGDs. At this symposium with the title of "Mystery-Solving of the Structure and Action of Natural Products", four symposists will give lectures on cutting-edge research in each specialized field, leading to hot discussion on new development of natural product chemistry research.
