[S25] Challenges to breakthrough in the drug discovery and development by young pharmacological researchers

Sun. Mar 27, 2022 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM [Room R] Shirotori Hall (South) (Bldg. 4: 1F)

Organizer: Hideaki Tagashira (Dept. Pharmacol., Fac. Med., Fukuoka Univ.), Kazuharu Furutani (Dept. Pharmacol., Fac. Pharmaceut. Sci., Tokushima Bunri Univ.)

The scientific breakthroughs are emerging scientific advances for innovating the research fields. In this symposium, six young and energetic researchers will introduce their cases of the ongoing challenges to break through the barriers that stand in the way of drug discovery and development. The topics include that 1) novel GPCR regulation mechanism and colitis (Nishiyama), 2) RNA phase separation driving the pathogenic prion-like protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases (Yabuki), 3) age-dependent decline in remyelination capacity as a novel target for encephalomyelitis (Muramatsu), 4) the excitation-transcription coupling underlying the disease-related vascular remodeling (Suzuki), 5) the important relationship between Mg2+ metabolisms and cardiovascular diseases (Tagashira), and 6) a new method to reduce skeletal muscle inflammation caused by infections (Sakamoto). We will discuss with the audience on the floor how to use the new idea and techniques to solve the problems in other research. We will also discuss how to develop them into drug discovery and development. We hope that this symposium will allow us to read trends in the changing research field and discover potential issues that will lead to the next breakthroughs.
