[S46] Role of pharmaceutical graduate education program for cultivation of advanced pharmaceutical talent needed by society

Nineteen national and public universities have been developing an advanced education & study program to train pharmacists with high-level leadership skills through collaboration with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology since FY2016. As part of this program, the National and Public University Review Committee of the 6-year Pharmaceutical Education and Study System, which was launched under the direction of the Meetings of Deans (Directors/Presidents) of National and Public University Pharmacy Schools, addresses various issues. Among those issues, this symposium deals with the continuous low entrance rate of 4-years doctor's degree program in graduate school after finish 6-year undergraduate program. Related information will be shared during the symposium and effective response and solution to this issue for the future will be discussed from the following perspectives: 1) pointing out of the current issues of pharmacist training program in universities and proposal of efforts for improvement from the Review Committee of Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, 2) reform models of the graduate school education system of three universities to train pharmacist-scientist with high-level leadership skills, and 3) roles and ideal goals of undergraduate education program followed by advanced graduate school education from the viewpoint of the basal policy of the revised model core curriculum.
