[S44] Recent research on the molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis

Mon. Mar 28, 2022 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM [Room Q] Shirotori Hall (North) (Bldg. 4: 1F)

Organizer: Ken-ichi Yamada (Facul. of Pharm. Sci., Kyushu Univ.), Imai Hirotaka (Sch. Pharmaceut. Sci., Kitasato Univ.)

Recently, in non-apoptotic cell deaths, iron-dependent lipid oxidation-dependent cell death (ferroptosis) has received the most attention. Ferroptosis is a cell death induced by lipid oxidation mediated by Fenton reaction and decreased activity of intracellular glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4), which is represented by the anticancer drug elastin and RSL3. Currently, various efforts are being made to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that regulate this process. In this symposium, we will discuss the molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis, including the organelle responsible for ferroptosis, regulatory factors of the cysteine transport system, molecular mechanisms of iron accumulation, and the molecular mechanisms of slow cell death induced by lipoxytosis and oxidative stress. Also, the presentations will introduce recent findings on molecular mechanisms and related diseases.
