[S50] New-generation nanotechnologies contribute to medical innovation
Mon. Mar 28, 2022 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM [Room R] Shirotori Hall (South) (Bldg. 4: 1F)
Organizer: Ryo Suzuki (Fac. Pharma-Sci. Teikyo Univ.), Kentaro Kogure (Grad. Sch. Biomed. Sci., Tokushima Univ.)
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) which are nanoparticles containing various molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids have function as intercellular communication tools to maintain homeostasis. On the other hand, in some diseases, it is considered that EVs different from normal are produced and abnormal signal transmission occurs. Therefore, analysis of abnormal EVs is expected to lead to early detection of diseases and elucidation of the onset mechanism of diseases. In addition, EVs responsible for such intercellular communication are natural nanoparticles practice ideal drug delivery system (DDS) in vivo. Therefore, if the function of these EVs can be artificially utilized, it will lead to the development of the ultimate DDS based on biological function. However, the characteristics and functions of EVs are often unclear, the analysis of abnormal EVs related to diseases and development of DDS that mimic EVs have not been achieved. In these problems, it is necessary to challenge the development of analytical techniques and functional modification of EVs to utilize as nanomedicine and evaluate the characteristics of EVs regarding the pharmacokinetics. In this sympodium, we will discuss a new era of nanotechnologies that contribute to drug discovery innovation, focusing on the analysis technology and DDS development associated with EVs.
