A release of Sr from fuel would be enhanced by the formation of volatile SrCl2 in case of seawater injection into the core like as Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant severe accidents. We investigated the chemisorption behavior of released SrCl2 onto type 304 stainless steel. It was observed that stable Sr-Si-O compounds were formed on the stainless steel surface by a chemisorption.
