A portable soil contamination detector is under development. A subtraction of radiation counts, measured by a pancake-type Geiger-Mueller detector with and without an acrylic cap put on the contaminated ground, can be considered as the contribution of beta-rays from the contamination. It is confirmed in this study that the beta-ray count rates (cps) and the contaminations (Bq/kg) for different contamination levels are proportional.
