An underwater dosimetry system combining a scintillator and an optical fiber was developed for the purpose of measuring the position and movement direction of a intense cobalt-60 gamma-ray source stored in water. The distance of the source to the two detectors installed in water was estimated from the dose rate measurement. Moreover, the direction of movement of the radiation source can be identified from simultaneous change of detector response.
