Keywords: severe accident of a nuclear reactor , decommissioning of Fukushima reactors, MPS method, levitation method, in-depth status evaluation of the fuel debris

Deepening understanding of the current status of the damaged Fukushima reactors is important for the safe and efficient decommissioning of the reactors. The presenting research team (Waseda Univ., Osaka Univ., JAEA) are carrying out multi-physics modeling with particle method, simulated small-scale experiment and acquisition of high temperature melt properties with levitation method to investigate in-depth status evaluation of the fuel debris in the pedestal region of Unit-2 and Unit-3. This presentation gives the overview, planning and progress of the first year of the project.
