The conceptual study on fast reactors with lower sodium void reactivity has been performed. The features of the hopeful core concept consist of adopting particulate metallic fuel, designing its fuel sub-assembly with Helium bond type pins and upper sodium plenum, shortening the core height and so on. The results to evaluate the nuclear and passive safety characteristics of the cores based on the new our concept revealed that the passive shutdown for ATWS expects to be achieved in not only small power reactors but also large ones.
