[2J13] DEM simulation for optimization of a powder mixer.

*Rinako Yokoyama1, Mikio Sakai1 (1. Univ. of Tokyo)

Keywords:DEM, Powder mixing

Powder mixing process is employed in a nuclear fuel fabrication, and homogeneous powder mixture is required for nuclear fuel and additives. In this process, application of the numerical simulation is desired to evaluate the degree of powder mixing accurately. In this study, DEM/SDF method was employed for the simulation of powder mixing in a container blender. Sensitive analysis were performed, where the parameter was rotation axis angle, rotation speed and number of particles. The best parameter was examined to maximize the mixing efficiency. Lacey's Mixing Index was employed for evaluating the mixing progress. In addition, the mixing mechanism was discussed by evaluating Granular Temperature.
