Because silicide fuel has a high fissile density, high thermal conductivity and good chemical stability, the use of silicide fuel can possibly enhance safety, security, and safeguards (3Ss) in nuclear reactor facilities. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the use of U-Pu silicide fuel affects 3Ss features in light water reactors by evaluating neutronics, safety and non-proliferation features. After running simulations using MVP calculation code, the results showed that, compared to MOX fuel, a reactor using U-Pu silicide fuel will have a longer burnup period and same reactivity coefficient. Also, a non-proliferation assessment reveals that even fresh silicide fuel, due to its chemical stability, has the same level as standard LWR spent fuel.
