[1L05] Oxide impurity removal in lead lithium eutectic alloy by an electrochemical method
Keywords:Liquid breeder, lithium-lead, oxygen impurity, electrochemistry
Oxygen impurity in lithium-lead eutectic alloy (Li-Pb) is thought to enhance the oxidizing corrosion of tubing material and degradation of oxide ceramic coating, which must be controlled for safety operation of Li-Pb blanket. So far, oxide impurity in Li-Pb has been reported to transport to the contacting chloride molten salt, and to be reducible using carbon electrode in the molten salt. In this research, oxygen-containing Li-Pb is immersed in LiCl-KCl eutectic as a counter electrode and a grass-like carbon electrode (working electrode) is used. Applying DC current, gas released from the carbon electrode is quantified using a quadruple mass analyzer.
