事故後、各地で継続的に計測されている空間線量率のゆらぎをOrnstein-Uhlenbeck(O-U)過程と呼ばれる簡単な確率過程を用いてモデル化を行い、測定値はO-U過程に従うとして矛盾しないことを示した。確率過程を用いると異常値の検出ができる。モデルから決まる標準偏差σとすると、3σを超える大きな指示値を得た際は注意することを提案した。
