We experimentally investigated feasibility of XRF analysis utilizing quasi-monochromatic characteristic X-rays induced by MeV-proton irradiation onto a single-element target as the primary X-ray. By setting the primary X-ray energy slightly higher than the absorption edge of the element to be measured, we can increase the sensitivity and reduce the radiation dose to the sample. For analysis of Cu (K absorption edge energy = 8.98 keV) in cultural heritage samples with minimum radiation dose, a simulated sample containing Cu was prepared, and XRF analysis was performed using Ge-KX-ray (9.87 keV) produced by irradiating an elemental Ge target with 2.5-MeV protons. We discuss the minimum detection limit for Cu and the radiation dose received by the sample.
