Dosemeters for external radiation protection are designed and calibrated based on the operational quantities. The ICRU has introduced an alternative definition of the operational quantities in ICRU Report 95, which was published jointly with the ICRP. This would impact on the characteristics of these dosemeters such as energy dependence. In order to investigate this impact, we firstly evaluated the conversion coefficients from measurement standards to the proposed operational quantities for calibration fields of the Facility of Radiation Standards (FRS) at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency. Using these fields, energy response of several commercially available dosemeters to the recommended operational quantities was investigated.
