[2J17] Development of Hydrogen Treatment System in Severe Accidents Phase-II
(4) Prediction of Hydrogen Treatment Performance by Numerical Calculation
Keywords:Severe accidents, Hydrogen treatment system, Metal oxide, Safety enhancements, Oxidation reaction, Reaction rate, Reaction of heat, Packed bed, Unsteady
We have developed the hydrogen treatment system with metal oxide as a countermeasure of large quantities of hydrogen generated in the pressurized containment vessel of BWRs in severe accidents. Reaction heat from the oxidation of hydrogen increases the temperature of the packed bed and consequently the reaction rate, which implies necessity for appropriate design to avoid self-ignition of hydrogen. Therefore, the mathematical model of coupled thermal-hydraulic-chemical model was created, and the numerical calculation model was validated by comparison with the single tube reactor test. In addition, using the developed model, temperature change and hydrogen treatment rate in single tube reactor were predicted, and hydrogen treatment performance was evaluated.
