[1E08] Development of Plasma Torch Melting Facility for Treatment of Radioactive Wastes Generated by Nuclear Power Plant
Keywords:Plasma torch melting technology, Radioactive waste, Demonstration test, Mega-watt class
Plasma torch melting technology has been considered as a promising technology for treatment of radioactive waste generated by nuclear power plant. The plasma torch melting has an advantage of being able to treat the wastes regardless of types such as combustible and non-combustible wastes. To treat the radioactive waste by operating and decommissioning of nuclear power plant, the mega-watt class of plasma torch melting facility was developed and constructed in Central Research Institute of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power in South Korea. As a pilot test facility, the demonstration test is being performed to evaluate the applicability for treatment of various radioactive wastes. The facility is mainly comprised of melting chamber, thermal decomposition chamber, melt discharge zone, three of waste feeding devices and off-gas treatment system.
