[2I10] Development of A Realtime Neutron Beam Monitoring for iBNCT
Keywords:Boron neutron capture therapy, Neutron, Silicon diode detector, Real-time mesurement, Simulation
Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) attracts attention as a new cancer treatment. BNCT neutron beam is produced by irradiating a Be target with accelerated proton beam at iBNCT. This study aims to develop a direct neutron measurement method. First, neutron production was simulated using the PHITS code. The simulation results showed that fast neutrons were emitted at the upstream of the Be target. These fast neutrons were detected using a fast neutron sensor consisting of a polyethylene plate and a semiconductor sensor. As a result, the time responses of the fast neutron count rate showed good agreement with that of the proton beam current. It is found that the real-time monitoring of the BNCT neutron beam is possible.
