[3E09] Study of a remote reactor monitoring system by using reactor antineutrinos
Keywords:Reactor antineutrinos, Beta decay, Nuclear data, Reactor monitoring, Safeguards
In nuclear reactors, antineutrinos are emitted in a process of beta decay of fission products, and they are referred to as reactor antineutrinos. Reactor antineutrinos are key to get information inside reactors. Therefore, they draw attention in nuclear safeguards. This study aims to develop a calculation method of the energy spectra and yields of reactor antineutrinos based on summation calculation of fission products and investigate a possibility to detect status of reactor operation, composition of nuclear fuel and undeclared fuel replacement. We found it possible to get general information inside the reactors in a real-time, remote, and non-destructive way by using burnup dependence of fraction of antineutrinos below 4 MeV in antineutrino energy spectra after the inverse beta decay reaction.
