(1) Preparation for removal of the Spent Fuel Sheared Powder

Tokai Reprocessing Plant (TRP) which shifted to decommissioning phase in 2014 had nuclear materials such as spent fuel sheared powder remained in the process because TRP intended to resume reprocessing operations. It is necessary to remove it as Flush-out before decontamination. We have planned to dissolve the sheared powder recovered from the shearing machine and the distributor, and to transfer the dissolved solution to the highly radioactive waste storage tanks. The recovered powder is directly put into the dissolver by handling the cell crane and manipulators. Therefore, we have devised tools supporting remote operation, improved them based on mock-ups, and conducted training. Operational training and inspections of equipment, such as the dissolver, were also carefully conducted to complete the preparations.
