At the shearing machine and the distributor in the Tokai Reprocessing Plant (TRP), a spent fuel sheared powder remained. The sheared powder was dissolved in a dissolver and transferred to high active liquid waste storage tanks by using the minimum necessary equipment.The dissolution of sheared powder increases the internal pressure of the dissolver because it is easy to react compared with chopped spent fuel. Therefore, we set up an operation mode in which the nitric acid feed rate and other parameters were determined for each dissolution progress to prevent internal pressure rise. The dissolution amount was set at under 30 kg/batch and dissolved 10 times, considering the experience. As a result, this work was completed safely and as planned.
