[1C15] Development of Quick and Remote Analysis for Severe Accident Reactor-9
(3) Application of LIBS to samples containing spent fuel
Keywords:Remote analysis, Fiber-delivered LIBS, Spent fuel, High radiation dose
We have developed a fiber-delivered laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (fiber LIBS) device for remote analysis of nuclear fuel materials inside and outside the damaged reactor during decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi reactor. We are currently evaluating its application to samples containing nuclear fuel materials. This time, we conducted measurements in a hot cell under a dose rate environment of up to 1.0 Sv/h on a sample of a mixture of spent fuel and Zr and Fe oxides. As a result, it was confirmed that both the obtained LIBS spectra and the evaluated mixing ratio were independent of the dose rate, indicating that the method is highly likely to be applied to the analysis of actual samples.
