In many local cities in Japan, securing a means of transport for the elderly is an issue.
Therefore, local governments operate the community buses. However, it is difficult to
achieve sustainable public transport on a uniform basis because the geographical
features and traffic service conditions vary from region to region.
In this study, a questionnaire survey on travel behavior was conducted in Kota-cho,
Aichi prefecture. We focused on the visiting facilities including the location, the purpose
of the visit, travel mode and frequency of the visit, and analyzed the relationships
between the districts. The results clarified the main hubs in Kota-cho and the districts
separated from the surroundings of Kota-cho. These obtained results are expected to
contribute to the restructuring of the route schedule of community buses and an index
when planning new community bus operation plans.
