Keywords:Road Space, Street Parklet, Visitor Behavior, Walkable
This study aimed to understand the effect of the installation of street parklets on sidewalks in Higashi-Hiroshima City. We identified the various behavioral characteristics of people staying in street parklets by analyzing data on the attributes and duration of people staying in street parklets based on traffic volume surveys, comfort level measurement surveys, and fixed-point camera images. The results showed that the number of pedestrian traffic doubled during the experiment, and that the attractiveness of the road space as a "fun place to spend time" were clarified. In addition, an analysis of the effect on the duration showed that the length of stay in street parklet tended to increase when people stayed alone or in groups, and when they stayed during the daytime. On the other hand, since there is a trade-off relationship between the length of stay and the number of people staying, we indicated the need to evaluate the utilizing road space with multiple indicators.
