[LS10-3B-1] The effect of growth hormone treatment on brain metabolism in children

Shinichi Niijima (Department of Pediatrics, Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine, Juntendo Nerima Hospital, Japan)

The patient of Adult GHD is the tendency to depression, and improves the symptom by the GH treatment. However, infant's GHD patient doesn't have the report whether tend to depression compared with a normal child.
We reported that depression before and after the GH treatment at GHD patient was evaluated, and the depression tendency improved it by the GH treatment.
It was examined whether the improvement of the depression symptom was a direct influence to the brain of GH, by using cerebral blood flow (SPECT) and all-night EEG monitoring. As a result, a remarkable improvement of the cerebral blood flow and the sleep stage was admitted by the GH treatment, and the direct influence to the brain metabolism of GH was suggested.
As for the deep relation of the GH secretion to the appearance of deep sleep stage, the sleep for the rest is thought to be a very important in the infant of the developing process.
The GH hyposecretion decreases deep sleep stage in sleep, and it is necessary to improve it as soon as possible if it develops into the sleep disturbance while not noticing it. It is thought that the sleep for an important, better rest is obtained if the sleep stage improves it by positively doing the GH replenishment therapy to infant's GHD patient.
