[P1-13] Factors Predictive of Neurodevelopmental Disabilities among Pediatric Patients with uncorrected Congenital Heart Disease

[Introduction] Children with uncorrected congenital heart disease (CHD) are at risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities (ND). This study aims to determine the prevalence and factors associated with having ND among patients with uncorrected CHD ages 6 months to 8 years at the Section of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics.
[Methodology] Design: A cross-sectional study; n= 100; Battelle Developmental Inventory (BDI), Group A and B with and without Neurodevelopmental Disability.
[Results] Group A were significantly older (ages 4.26 versus 2.45 years old, p = 0.001) with lower BMI (13.96 versus 15.50, p = 0.001). Group B had a higher proportion of normal anthropometrics ( p < 0.05). The number of children with moderately severe CHD is higher (97% vs 74%, p = 0.000) and the incidence of children with maternal risk factor (88% vs 61%, p = 0.002) and microcephaly (75.4% vs 6.2%, p =0.000) are significantly greater among Group A. The actual BDI scores showed Group A scored higher in all five developmental domains tested. Using the Binary logistic regression model only the presence of microcephaly was found to be significantly associated with an increased risk for developing ND. Using the Final regression model, children with uncorrected CHD and microcephaly were 40.35 times as likely to have ND (95% CI 8.53 to 190.77 p = 0.000).
[Conclusions] The prevalence of children with and without ND with uncorrected CHD is 69 and 31. The prevalence and severity of ND increases with severity of the cardiac problem, associated risk factors and comorbidities.
