[P1-53] Study of Sleep in benign childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECT)

Yuqin Zhang (Department of Neurology, Tianjin Children Hospital, Tianjin,China)

Objective: To study the characteristics and analyze the correlation of the sleep disorder in benign childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECT)
Methods: In the period between January 2014 to August 2016, 18 patients with benign childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECT) at the outpatient clinic of Children hospital in tianjin were recruited as the group of study, at the same time 12 cases of healthy volunteers were recruited as the controls. All the 18 patients and 12 cases of healthy controls went on polysomnography, then analyzed the scores of these scales. All recordings were visually analyzed by two independent observers, and the following information was collected: sleep structure parameters, respiratory events, body movements, and percutaneous oxygen saturation etc. The characteristics of sleep disorder of patients and the correlation between clinical symptoms and clinical rating scale was analyzed.
Results: Wake after sleep onset is significantly prolonged in patients than the controls. The total sleep stage shifts, sleep stage shifts per an hour and the sleep stage N2 shifts in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy are higher than the controls. Compared to the controls, patients with benign childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECT) had prominent increases in periodic limb movement(PLM)index and PLM in REM stage.
Conclusion Patients with benign childhood epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (BECT) sleep disorder, including wake after sleep onset prolonged, the total sleep shifts and sleep stage shifts per an hour increased, periodic limb movements.
