[P1-56] Comparative retention rates of antiepileptic drugs In BECTS patients

Xiu-Yu Shi (Department of Pediatrics, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China)

[Introduction] To evaluate antiepileptic drug in benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS) patients using retention rate. [Methodology] In this single-center retrospective study, characteristics and outcomes of BECTS patients receiving antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) treatment from 2008 to 2014 were recorded. The primary outcome measure was retention rate, defined as ratio of the number of patients retained after one year long AEDs treatment. Retention rate of different AEDs groups were compared. And clinical information was collected to evaluate risk factors for retention rate. [Results] 103 patients were included, 39(37.9%)of whom receive Sodium valproate, 33 (32.0%) receive Levetiracetam and 31 (30.1%) receive oxcarbazepine as their first used AED. Patients receiving LEV as their first line therapy show better retention rate than patients with VPA but not obviously different from OXC. High seizure frequency is an independent risk factor for worse retention rate (OR=4.076, p=0.0027). [Conclusions] In BECTS patients, retention rate of LEV is significantly better than that of VPA, but not significantly different from that of OXC. And patients with seizure frequency more than three times per year show worse retention rate after one year long AEDs treatment.
