[P1-6] Medical Care and Support for Developmental Disorder at Regional Core Hospitals

Aki Kurihara (Department of Pediatrics, Tama-Hokubu Medical Center, Japan)

[Introduction] We assessed the situation of the outpatient service for developmental disorders at a regional core hospital in an area without a treatment and education institution, and considered both its significance and future direction.
[Method] Subjects:130 children(96 boys and 34 girls) whom Kurihara has examined at the outpatient pediatrics developmental disorder clinic in Tama-Hokubu Medical Center from December 2010.
We analyzed both the situation and the treatment progress of the subjects based on medical records.
[Result] Outcome: 79 patients were transferred to appropriate schools. 37 patients refused to attend to school, 26 patients show improvement.
93 patients started medications, 75 and 11 of which were atomoxetine and methylphenidate, respectively.
11 patients were analyzed using the WISC4. Mean scores were FIQ +6, VCI +7.5, PRI +0.7, WMI +9, PSI -1.6.
11 patients had Nocturnal Enuresis, of which, all 11 had ADHD and 8 had ASD. All 11 patients showed improvement by the use of atomoxetine.
[Summary] Proper collaborative intervention by community groups and schools can provide support for children with developmental disorder, even in the areas without treatment and education institutions. Furthermore, greater improvement, especially, in verbal ability and working memory can be expected. Continuous appeals for the necessity of early intervention, has led to the decision to have the department of development consultation for preschool children managed by the Board of Education in 2016. We conclude that collaborative effort with community groups and childcare education centers causes synergetic effects on the treatment of developmental disorders at regional core hospitals.
