[Objective]To analyze the clinical features, treatment and clinical effcacy of children with cortical dysplasia.
[Methods]We analyzed 40 cases of children with cortical dysplasia diagnosed by MRI who were admitted to Guangdong General Hospital in the past 4 years, including clinical features, laboratory examinations, treatment and clinical effcacy.
[Results]Malformations due to abnormal cell proliferation was the major type of the cortical dysplasia , but there was no significant difference between the types of CD and gender (continuity correction χ2=0.075, P=0.784). Partial seizures induced by Cortical dysplasia was accounted for 52.5% (21/40), in which simple partial seizure was 22.5% (9/40) and complex partial seizure was 30% (12/40); GTCS took up 47.5% (19/40). we revealed significant correlation between type of seizure and type of CD(χ2=7.166, P=0.007). The common lesions of focal cortical dysplasia was in the frontal and temporal region of the brain where the electroencephalogram showed sharp waves 、sharp and slow waves and spike and slow waves. We followed up these patients who regularly took antiepileptic drugs for3 months to 2.5 years, 55.5% (22/40) of clinical effcacy was poor.
[Conlusions]The major type of cortical dysplasia was malformations due to abnormal cell proliferation , mainly manifested as epilepsy and had poor antiepileptic drug therapy .
