[R4-04] Speciation and solubility of arsenic, lead, and cadmium in contaminated soils from Kamegai mine tailing, Toyama, Japan

*Baasansuren Gankhurel1, Keisuke Fukushi1, Akitoshi Akehi1, Yoshio Takahashi2, Natsumi Takeda1, Xiaolan Zhao3, Kazuo Kawasaki4 (1. Kanazawa Uni., 2. Uni. of Tokyo, 3. Chang`an Uni., 4. Uni. of Toyama)

Keywords:mine tailings, heavy metals, adsorption, XAFS, sequential extraction

Mining extraction and processing generate large volumes of metal-rich waste tailings. This tailing is considered to be a principal cause of soil contamination in mining areas. Once these toxic metals are introduced into soils with surface water, they can be transported deep into the soil and into groundwater, threatening environmental health.
