We report organic matter inclusions in magnetite crystals in a BIF rock sample from the Moodies Group, Barberton Greenstone Belt, South Africa. The Raman spectra show the feature of thermally matured organic matters. The less intense band at 1340 cm-1 (D1) than 1580 cm-1 (G) is a feature reported for low matured kerogen. The bands at 1200 and 1440 cm-1 suggest the preservation of aliphatic hydrocarbons. The band at 875 cm-1 is observed where the 1440 cm-1 band is prominent, indicating the presence of a head group of phospholipids.
