The early Earth dynamics including the cooling of mantle and the onset of plate tectonics that modified the composition of mantle through subduction is understood through the limited Archean record. Gradual destruction of the early formed crust at the convergent boundaries has significantly altered the composition of the primitive mantle from Late Archean to Proterozoic. However, periodic emplacement of mantle materials in the form of mafic dyke swarms into the Archean crust has since long survived and is exposed in the Precambrian terranes all over the world.
