The geodynamic cycle of carbon is of vital importance in controlling the Earth’s carbon budget. In this presentation, a comprehensive synthesis is carried out on the forms of carbon, its movement among the various reservoirs and the evolution of carbon isotopes in the middle to lower continental crust, where large volumes of carbon can be stored as long-term sinks.
