Keywords:serpentine, X-ray CT, chrysotile, polygonal serpentine

A High-resolution X-ray CT analysis of microtexture s of serpentine veins was conducted to reveal their formation process. In the CT image the specimen can be divided into three regions forming layers parallel to the serpentine vein; region 1 composed of polygonal serpentine in random directions within the layer with abundant voids, region 2 and 3 composed of chrysotile aligned in different directions respectively. Cracks were formed at the borders of the layers, indicating effect of microtextures and void ratio to the formation of fractures.
