At the 2023 national conference, it was pointed out that there are few papers that "re-question" Noda eds. (2023) "Re-questioning the SDGs" (Hokubunka-sha). This session will examine what went wrong with the SDGs and how they can be improved, based on changes in social conditions such as political upheaval in Bangladesh. The theme of the 2023 session was "Africa," but this year's session will focus on "South Asia," and we plan to proceed with regional and thematic research in the future. Based on the experience of South Asia, we will analyze cases that contribute to rethinking the SDGs. We will answer the question of What Went Wrong and Why (subtitle) by examining the development policies and programs of India (Hayashi), Bangladesh (Ito), Sri Lanka (Noda), and India from the perspective of Africa (Ochia and Sato). After summarizing the entire meeting, Hara (JICA) will dig deeper into the issues based on their own practical experiences in South Asia, and discuss specific policy discussions in a panel discussion. The study group plans to publish a special article in an international journal. The presentations and discussions at this session are expected to be an important motivation for this purpose.
