[41] WIND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTIONS ON A HIGH-RISE BUILDING IN THE ACTUAL URBAN AREA USING COHERENT-STRUCTURE SMAGORINSKY MODEL FOR LES

Ultra-large-scale simulations using LES with subgrid-scale (SGS) model based on the traditional Smagorinsky model (SM) and the Coherent-Structure Smagorinsky model (CSM) have been carried out to investigate the performance of these models on prediction of the pressure distributions acting on a high-rise building in an actual urban area. A distinctive wind pressure distribution with strong positive and negative pressure simultaneously occurred on the front wall of the target building due to the strong influence of neighboring buildings for a specific wind direction. CSM accounts implicitly the vortices behaviors in the flow fields and gives more accurate results with less variation than SM in comparison with experimental results. CSM also yielded consistent peak pressure coefficients for all wind directions within 20% in a relatively large-pressure region.
