Many companies, including the oil industry, that depend on domestic demand have succeeded in transforming their business portfolios, albeit in small numbers, while their existing businesses are shrinking. What capabilities did companies that succeeded in such conversion have and how did they make the conversion possible? As a result of examining some successful cases, the company that achieved the portfolio conversion was planning a strategy by backcasting, assuming an ultra-long-term future society. In that practice, it was found that it is important to have a common understanding with employees and the existence of a corporate philosophy as a judgment axis.
