[2B15] Continuous conversion of glycerol to lactic acids over metal-acid bifunctional catalyst
In this study, we investigated the continuous synthesis of lactic acid (LA) from glycerol (Gly) in a flow reactor. Various supported Pt catalysts were investigated, and LA was formed when a support with an acid point was used. In particular, when layered niobium oxide (L-Nb2O5) was used as a support, oxidation by Pt and acid catalyzed reaction by L-Nb2O5 proceeded efficiently, stable Gly conversion was obtained without the addition of base, and LA was obtained continuously with high LA selectivity (>70 %) for a long time.
