[1C07] [Invited] The past and future of chemical recycling for waste plastics

Research and development of the recycling for waste plastics began in the 1970s, and some commercial plants were constructed in Japan and Europe in the 1990s. However, the most of them had been closed for economic reasons. Since 2015, greenhouse gases and waste plastics have been widely recognized as serious global environmental problems and the limitations of material recycling become apparent, expectations for chemical recycling of waste plastics are growing. This presentation will provide an overview of the history of chemical recycling to date and its prospects.
